Yoav developed such talent and knowledge with specific regards to book marketing that even with my background selling more than $30,000,000 in marketing consulting…I couldn’t hold a candle to his plans and insights […] If you’ve got even the smallest opportunity to work with him I highly recommend you grab it before it’s gone… you won’t be disappointed!

this isn’t the first time I’ve seen something like this and mostly they sell the idea of making a million dollars overnight instead of dealing with the difficult issue that you’ve dealt with of how to stand out in the market place and actually create something that sells.

I’ve learned how to think strategically about Amazon – I know that most authors understand the pivotal role Amazon has in the book marketing world, but I don’t think many authors understand how to approach Amazon in a strategic way.

Become the #1 bestselling author with a $12 promotion

A couple of weeks ago I was issued a challenge by one of my Insiders’ Club members.

You see…

Whenever the subject of being a bestselling author comes up, I always tell my group that it’s pretty easy to become a #1 Amazon bestselling author in a small category…

That the sales benefits are negligible…

And that the #1 bestselling author status doesn’t really mean a whole lot unless you’ve reached that status on a major list (like the NY Times or WSJ).

But after what was probably the hundredth time I gave my little speech, one of my students called me out…

she said…

“If it’s that easy… let’s do it for my book!”

Challenge accepted.

We picked a couple of low-competition categories for the book.

We lowered the price to 99c.

And I asked a few friends to buy her book – as a favor.

All in all, I generated only 12 purchases.

And lo and behold…

10 hours later, her book was ranked at #1 in one category and #2 in another category.

It even got that fancy ‘Bestseller’ tag.

But sadly…The entire promotion produced just 13 sales (and this includes the 12 I was responsible for).

And here is the takeaway:

1.  Don’t purchase $500, $1000 or $5000 programs that promise to make you an Amazon Bestseller.  These programs are a rip-off, all they do is take a fraction of the money you pay them and use it to buy copies of your book. So they’re temporarily making you a best seller – which doesn’t affect your long sales in any significant way.
